The province of Mpumalanga in South Africa is most noted for the multitude of wildlife reserves,
both private and national that extends across this untamed and vast area. The most famous of its
game reserves is the Kruger National Park, flagship game sanctuary of the South African National
Parks, which extends across both the Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces covering a massive area of
35000 square kilometres. The Kruger National Park and the private game reserves that border her
western boundary – private reserves of the Sabi Sands, Manyaleti,Timbavati, Klaserieand Balule, to
name but a few, are high priority for most tourists visiting South Africa to experience Big Five game
viewing, coupled with the solitude and space of Africa’s wilderness. Here too one can choose a range
of safari vacation options, from camping safaris for a more intimate bush experience, to budget safaris
for more price conscious travellers, to sumptuousluxury safaris within a pristine wilderness
environment. Mpumalanga has an array of Big Five game viewing safari lodges to suit almost any
budget and travellers style – perhaps its walking safaris, or gourmet safaris, or safaris with an
emphasis on photography, whatever ‘blows your hair back’ – but there is a whole lot more to the
province that is equally as fascinating as Africa’s wildlife.
