Destination Weddings, quite the buzz word these days and rightly so, as more and more couples choose to keep it small and intimate and escape to exotic locations to tie the knot. Close friends and family often travel to celebrate the couples nuptials abroad, but very often it is just the couple combining their wedding and honeymoon into one. Makes sense as a combined wedding-come-honeymoon, with all your hard earned cash focused on a longer private and romantic getaway, is an awesome way to begin a life together – the sum of shared experiences (that’s got to be a movie line, but oh so true).
We like to think of Africa as exotic – certainly our cup spillith-over with gorgeous settings – beach, safari, mountain and an alluring cultural diversity that makes Africa quite unique.
A safari wedding is one of the most romantic ‘ways to wed’, truly it is…
Head out on a game drive to a beautiful location with an endless view of the African bush, alternating between the bush hugging close and on other occasions an endless stretch of savannah, interspersed with a wildlife parade, that is of course why most people visit the continent, including copious amounts of fine plumage from our feathered friends.
Your ranger will stop at a predetermined rendezvous point where a small table has been set up, champagne and canapés, the minister and witnesses waiting beneath a huge baobab or perhaps a leadwood tree. You can dress it down to be back to basics nature, or alternatively dress it up with flowers, candles and be serenaded by an African choir.
Africa has a long-legged coastline and here to the opportunities for wedding nuptials on the beach are endless…
The beaches along the Garden Route as well as Durban and the Zululand coastline (also known as the Elephant Coast) are popular for beach weddings. The islands off of Mozambique are pearls of paradise where an exchange of vows on an isolated coastline is something quite special. There is the island of Mauritius, as well as the clear waters and beaches of Lake Malawi. Utterly beautiful wedding and honeymoon destinations.
In most countries in Africa (South African and Mauritius being the exception) the wedding ceremony is an exchange of vows and is not legally binding. One would need to be married in a court of law prior to heading out on your holiday. In South Africa ministers carry out legal weddings and your legal documentation will be posted to you in your home country. In Mauritius weddings are big business and the hotels here conduct wedding ceremonies regularly. The upside of a weddings in Mauritius is that it's a smooth operation from start to finish – with a policy of only one wedding a day at the hotels, to ensure that you have the full attention of your co-ordinator on your wedding day.
Intriguing Africa are able to put together innumerable options for you. We have showcased a number of wedding packages on our website, but this is the tip of the ice-berg. So if you are dreaming of an African wedding, we would love to help you put it all together, whether it’s just the two of you or if you have family and friends travelling with you.
Often the friends who join, have separate itineraries – Africa is a long haul destination and friends making the effort to travel to your wedding, take the opportunity to vacation in Africa as well. This is where our assistance is invaluable in co-ordinating not only your travel arrangements but friends and family as well. This will take a great deal of stress off of the couple’s shoulders, knowing that Africa travel specialists are guiding your entire wedding celebrations.
Should family and friends wish to contribute financially to your wedding and honeymoon travels, we can facilitate this option for you as well.
Many couples have lived together for years prior to their wedding and often would prefer a donation by their family and friends to a charity or organisation in the country to which they are travelling in lieu of the 'typical' wedding gift. We have a wonderful list of awesome organisations that support both communities and the wildlife and wilderness in South Africa.
Weddings are fun and exciting and it would be our pleasure to assist with your wedding and/or honeymoon in Africa.
